Sir Hare Shaving Soap Review

Sir Hare is a pretty young shaving company based in the United States. But if we’ve learned anything from the other shaving cream and soap reviews, it’s that these new innovative companies aren’t scared to compete with the bigger companies with more history.

Anyway, Sir Hare is a small family run company that has been around less than 10 years. My main takeaway when researching Sir Hare is that they do an incredible job at listening to their customers and always looking for ways to improve their products. I’ve only used the most recent formula of their shaving soap, but apparently they have tweaked the formula and design a few times over the years to really give customers what they want. What else can you ask for from a company?

I’ve only ever used Sir Hare’s old fashioned shaving soap, but they do have a full line of shaving products: shaving kits, safety razors, safety razor blades, shaving oils, shaving soap, and badger hair shave brushes. They also sell additional grooming products like soap, face moisturizer, face wash and even a cologne. But today we are reviewing their shaving soap...

Sir Hare really takes a lot of pride in making a premium shaving soap as it is an artisan soap that is made in small batches, rather than a mass-produced product you would find at most big retail and drug stores. They actually make a few different shaving soaps, but their old fashioned barbershop scent is their most popular.

Alright, let’s get to the review!

Key Features

Classic Barbershop Scent

I really like the scent of Sir Hare’s Old Fashioned Shaving Soap. It’s a very light scent and not overpowering at all, but still very masculine.

When it comes to the actual “barbershop” scent, I'm not sure how to describe it but no barbershop I’ve ever been to smells this good. I think the best adjectives I could use to describe it are refreshing and clean. Sir Hare says there are hints of bergamot, oak moss and cedar wood in it.

Premium Lubrication — Prevents Razor Irritation

One of my favorite things about Sir Hare soap is that it is an incredibly slick and protective lubricant. It is a tallow-based soap and it creates a really good protective barrier. This thin layer of lubricant is what protects your skin from razor irritation. You’ll still be able to get an incredibly close shave, but without the post-shave razor burn.

Thick, Ample Lather

Sir Hare’s old fashioned shave soap produces a really great lather, but it is a thirsty soap in my opinion. What does that mean? Well it takes just a little more water than most other soaps to get the lather consistency just right.

Don’t overdo it with the water and use a dripping soak brush, but leave just a little extra water in your shaving brush’s bristles and that’s all it needs.

Once you figure out how much water to use, it’s a really easy and quick soap to lather. And one of the reasons it’s so quick and easy to lather is because of the excellent design of its container…

Efficient And Functional Container

I really like how Sir Hare gives ample space in the container for you to be able to bowl lather quickly and without making a mess. Most shaving soap containers are filled pretty close to the top. But Sir Hare uses an 8 ounce container for their 4 ounce soap.

This makes it incredibly easy to lather in the container in came in and way less messy because you will be able to keep all the lather in the container.

So how many shaves should you be able to get from the 4 ounces of product? Well Sir Hare says it should provide enough lather for over 100 shaves. And I definitely agree, 4 ounces of soap should last several months.

No Harsh Ingredients That Will Dry Out Your Skin

One of my favorite things about Sir Hare shaving soap is that it doesn’t dry my skin out. It’s made with all-natural ingredients so there aren’t any harsh ingredients that you find in aerosol shaving creams and gels. The natural ingredients Sir Hare uses are intended to moisturize the skin during a shave.

Who Do We Recommend Sir Hare's Old Fashioned Shave Soap For?

Sir Hare is an excellent shaving soap for a wide variety of wet shavers. It’s not the cheapest soap on the market, but you still get a tremendous bang for your buck. In my opinion, it’s a premium soap without the premium price tag that flies under the radar when a lot of guys are shopping for a shave soap.

I particularly think Sir Hare is a great option for men with dry or sensitive skin. It’s all natural ingredients are easy on the face and the lubrication provides tremendous protection from razor burn.

This really is one of my favorite shaving soaps and highly recommended.

What Are Some Other Good
Shave Soap & Creams To Consider?

RazoRock XXX Artisan Shaving Soap

RazoRock is an Italian company that makes a shave soap very similar to Sir Hare’s. RazoRock’s XXX soap is also an artisan soap and isn’t mass-produced. They place their emphasis on making high-quality small batches of soap.

A few of my favorite things about RazoRock XXX are: 1) it’s a softer soap so it’s incredibly easy to lather, 2) it’s an amazing lubricant and will protect your face from razor irritation and 3)it won’t dry out your skin.

Lather & Wood Sandalwood Shaving Soap

Lather & Wood make one of the most popular shaving soaps on the market right now. Their sandalwood scented shave soap comes in 4.6 ounces can, is an excellent lubricant and produces a ton of lather.

If you’re looking for a sandalwood scented shave soap, this is one of the best. It definitely is a strong sandalwood fragrance without being overpowering. Very manly smell that doesn’t stay too strong post-shave.

Proraso Shaving Cream

This is the first shaving cream I used when I switched to a safety razor. I did a little research and read a few reviews before buying, but the main reason I bought it was just because it was so popular on Amazon. And I got lucky because it didn’t disappoint. Proraso shaving cream is still one of my favorite shaving creams to this day.

It’s available in a few different scents so do some research and see which one is best for you. One thing I really like about it is it is easy to face lather with your shaving brush. No need for a bowl or or anything else that makes lathering messy and cumbersome.
