Vikings Blade Shaving Cream Review

Today we are wrapping up our shaving cream review series with Vikings Blade’s shaving cream. I feel like Vikings Blade doesn’t always get the publicity or recognition some other wet shaving companies do, but I’m a big fan of their products. I’ve previously reviewed their Chieftain safety razor and their synthetic shaving brush and am looking forward to reviewing their shaving cream for you today.

When I think of Vikings Blade, I think of a high-quality, innovative company that does things just a little different than most other wet shaving companies. They aren’t afraid of having products with slightly different designs or use non-traditional ingredients. And that statement definitely applies to their shaving cream we are about to take a look at.

So is Vikings Blade shaving cream the best one for your face? Let’s find out.

Key Features

“Light” Lather Shaving Cream

Vikings Blade markets this shaving cream as a “non-lather” shaving cream, and I’m not real sure why. No, it doesn’t generate a big, thick lather like Taylor of Old Bond Street or Truefitt & Hill. But it does produce some lather. It’s just very minimal.

I would consider something like Jack Black’s beard lube to be a true “non-lather” shaving cream.

Vikings Blade shaving cream does start to evaporate quickly after it’s applied, but some lather will remain. And most importantly as it evaporates, it turns into a really slick lubricant...

Slippery, Slick Lubricant

One of my favorite things about Vikings Blade’s shaving cream is how great of a lubricant it is. It’s definitely above average in my opinion.

And because it’s such a good lubricant, it does a good job of protecting the skin against razor burn and irritation. There definitely is a learning curve for applying it so you get the consistency right, but once you figure out the right amount to use and how much water you need in your brush, this is an excellent lubricant.

Multiple Scents Available

The last time I checked, Vikings Blade sells their shaving cream in four different scents: Sandalwood Cedar, New York 6am, Langham Spa and Bali Zen.

I’ve only ever used the Sandalwood Cedar so I can’t speak to the other fragrances, but I really like the scent of the Sandalwood Cedar cream. It is very masculine without being overpowering.

And after your shave when it has been washed off completely, it leaves a very faint scent afterwards. In fact, by the time I’ve applied my alum block and witch hazel post-shave, can’t even smell it anymore. The scent fades away nicely.

I think Sandalwood Cedar is their most popular, which is pretty much always the case with any shaving cream line when sandalwood is an option.

Made With High-Grade Ingredients

Vikings Blade does a great job at using high quality ingredients in all their products, in my opinion, and their shaving cream is no different. It is very gentle on the face and won’t dry out your skin.

I don’t believe it is vegan or all-natural though so if that’s important to you, you’ll need to look for another shaving cream.

5.3 Ounces of Product Goes A Long Way

If you end up buying Vikings Blade’s shaving cream, when you open the tub you will notice it’s not filled up all the way. Don’t be alarmed.

Vikings Blade left extra room in the tub for the product to breathe because it will expand or contract a little based on temperature. So while the tub is only filled up about ¾, it still has the full 5.3 ounces of product.

And that 5.3 ounces of shaving cream will go a long way. Don’t overdo it when applying it. Yes, make sure every square inch of what your shaving is adequately protected, but don’t cake it on.

Like I said earlier, it will take a little trial and error to get it just right.

Who Do We Recommend
Vikings Blade Shaving Cream For?

Vikings Blade’s non-lathering shaving cream is a really good option for men that want a slick lubricant without a ton of lather. If you’re looking for a shaving cream that lathers up nice and thick, this isn’t it.

But if you want a high-quality shaving cream that smells great and does a really good job of preventing razor burn, this is a good one.

What Are Some Other
Shaving Creams/Soaps To Consider?

Cremo shave cream

Cremo shave cream is very similar to Vikings Blade’s non-lather shaving cream. How do? Well Cremo also lathers very minimally and is a very slick lubricant. One difference though is the Cremo recommends applying their product with your hands, not a brush.

I recommend Cremo for guys with minimal stubble. It does a great job at being a sick lubricant. I personally don’t use it because I prefer a thicker lather since my beard is on the thicker side, but it’s still a really good option.

Truefitt & Hill shaving cream

If you’d prefer to try a classic, old school shaving cream that lathers up nice and thick, take a look at Truefitt & Hill’s shaving cream.

It does an amazing job at being a premium lubricant and a premium lather. Very few do both well, but Truefitt & Hill does.

T&H is definitely more in the premium price range, but it’s made with all natural ingredients and is incredibly mild and refreshing on the face. If you’re willing to increase your budget, it’s of the best shaving creams you can buy.

Lather & Wood shaving soap

Have you considered a shaving soap instead of a shaving cream? If not, I recommend checking out Lather & Wood’s shaving soap. It’s one of my favorites.

It takes a little more work and preparation to develop a shave soap  into a lather, but I think it’s worth the effort because of how great of a lather and lubricant it is.
